About

Thank you for taking the time to visit my little corner of the online world! I’m Emily. I’m a twenty-something teacher and I love what I do! I taught fourth grade for a couple of years before settling into fifth grade. I’ve created a lot of teaching tools to use in my own classroom over the course of the past several years. I like creating and using them, but I really enjoy sharing them.

I’m a teacher, but I’m also a wife to a wonderful husband who serves as the editor of our community’s local newspaper. We both worked for Appalachian State University’s newspaper while in college — the rest is history! We got married, bought and renovated a foreclosure (never again), and adopted two extremely spoiled but very special dogs: Boomer and Nova. We tried to train them, but the truth is: they actually ended up training us. That’s okay, though. We wouldn’t have it any other way!

A couple of years ago, at the beginning of November, I took a sick day. I called my school’s secretary to let her know about my intended absence. I thought I had pneumonia, but was instead diagnosed with leukemia. I underwent chemotherapy, radiation, and two bone marrow transplants. I spent five months in the hospital, as well as an additional two months in an apartment located within 10 minutes of Duke University’s bone marrow transplant clinic. Life after cancer isn’t perfect, but I’m in a good place. I’ve become a huge advocate for organizations like the American Cancer Society (www.relayforlife.org), National Marrow Donor Program (www.bethematch.org), and American Red Cross (www.redcross.org).

Other than that, I’m pretty predictable. I like decorating and organizing (that’s the nice way of calling myself a “neat freak”). I like jamming out on my 1970s piano (and singing, but only when I’m home alone). I like spending time outdoors, preferably walking and/or running. I like reading self-help books and sharing my thoughts and feelings with the world, every now and then. Oh, and I like chocolate. Who doesn’t like chocolate?!

I’m passionate about helping other teachers have what they need to inspire their students to be the best they can be. I take product requests, so please contact me with any and all inquires. Have a great day!

This system of organization for meal planning has This system of organization for meal planning has been working really well for us, and I’m really excited about it! I started using page protectors with an Expo marker, erasing every Sunday and starting over for the week ahead. We don’t stick to the plan 100-percent (we may switch days depending on our cravings and expiration dates), but we finally found a way to significantly decrease food waste and save money at the same time. 🙂 #teachersofinstagram #willteachforchocolate #mealplanning #homemanagement

This morning work packet comes in two versions: printable and digital. The printable version is a PDF of everything you see here, and the digital version is divided into individual pages that can easily be shared with students through Googles Slides, for example. Students can then simply type their responses into the form fields, as shown. 🤩 ... See MoreSee Less

These little hand sanitizers are great for back-to-school goody bags. I gave them to my students with a piece of chocolate for Valentine’s Day one year. I didn’t know how they’d be received (since it’s sanitizer and all), but they were a huge hit! #teachersofinstagram #teacherspayteachers #tpt #bathandbodyworks ... See MoreSee Less

I’ve been spending some time this summer updating my existing teaching resources/materials for hybrid learning so that teachers will have digital components to complement the print versions. The Teachers Pay Teachers back-to-school sale is today and tomorrow (Aug. 4-5), so now’s a great time to stock up for 25-percent off! 🙌🏻 #teachersofinstagram #teacherspayteachers #tpt ...
